Cemetery and Russian Orthodox church of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption
Over half a century of Russian culture is represented in this cemetery, which has now attained the status of a place of remembrance in which, since 1927, have been buried over 100,000 Russians who came to France following the 1917 Russian Revolution. Under great beech trees, epiceas and pines, with the blue domes of the flower-strewn tombs poking up among them, are the graves of contemporary celebrities such as the actress Odile Versois, sister of Marina Vlady, Serge Lifar, the great dancer Rudolf Nureyev and the cinema director Tarkovski, winner of the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. The all-white church topped by its blue dome was built in 1939 in the XVth century Novgorod style. It and the cemetery are listed Historic Monuments and form an ensemble that is unlike anything else in France.
